Manager - CAD Research and Development

1996- 1998

LA Gear, a leading footwear supplier; designs and fabricates  innovative fitness footwear using lighted components, licensed characters and games integration.

During 1995,  like so many organizations, LA Gear experienced  major restructuring. As a result the company faced the loss of several key resources. Design, fabrication and marketing teams who were dependent upon their integrated "Computer Aided Design and Product Data Management" (CAD/PDM) system, suddenly had no CAD/PDM support system administrator, manager or support personnel.

LA Gear utilized my services to analyze, manage and administer the system and make recovery recommendations. All hardware, software, license, service and maintenance configurations were analyzed and documented. Design operations, processes and future goals were charted and formulated. Findings were compiled into system and operations status reports, accompanied with a series of sensible and affordable right-sizing restoration options.

Software, hardware, license and maintenance service agreements were renegotiated. In some cases, replacement occurred when a tool was deemed extremely costly, over-valued or obsolete. Design operation costs were slashed by 120%!

LA Gear was then part of a corporate merger.  The final task was to liquidate most computer system assets at the best possible returns through auctions, liquidators and charities.
